Exploration

City Explorer Session 01 was held July 15th at Monnik Beer Co., and it went exactly the way I'd hoped when I first dreamed up this series. We had an engaged crowd and four presenters, each with a completely different approach to reading a city: my seizure-inducing rapid-fire barrage of images from Detroit, Claude's engaging storytelling on Brasília and Paraty, Layla's investigative ranking of great civic spaces from her travels around the country, and Christopher's experiential observations from Barcelona. I couldn't have asked for a better mix.

Rather than recap the presentations here, we were lucky enough to get them on video.

The conversations kept going well after the last slide. Some folks in the audience had actually been to the places we covered, and hearing them talked about again sparked a memory or taught them something new. Others left wanting to book a flight. And more than a few people were already thinking about what Louisville could borrow from what they'd just seen and heard.

Thanks to Monnik Beer Co. for hosting. It's the right kind of venue for this kind of intimate, close-up look at places we can learn from.
