Rapid progress was made at Fifth and Muhammad Ali over the past week. After the heavy rain subsided, work began on the new signage located at the main entrance of the Trager MicroForest. Metal fins extend out from the new signage to create a kind of wall that wraps around the south side of the central forest.
Over half the trees are now in place, with around 30 new trees going in the ground last week. In order to ensure our plants remain as healthy as possible, soil amendments were also tilled into the soil in the central forest space to set pH to the proper levels.
With the signage installed, work could begin on the walking path. Edging was installed along the rim of most of the path to separate out the crushed stone from the dirt.
With all this work complete, we are approaching the final weeks of construction on phase one. This means the microforest will be open to the public very soon, followed by an opening event after the derby season.
